April 12 is a sad day, the day an old friend, Maria Luisa Posa Dominado, Luing for short, disappeared from our lives violently, snatched from her comrades and loved ones to prevent her from doing her ongoing work for human rights and social change. She and her companion Nilo Arado were brazenly abducted by armed [...] It was in April 2007, just weeks after we had spent time with her in Iloilo, Philippines, that our friend Ma Luisa Posa Dominado, or Luing, was abducted along with her companion, Nilo Arado. They were on their way back from an election meeting with Bayan Muna when their vehicle was ambushed and the driver, [...] Elizabeth Principe, the mother of our good friend, Lorena “Aya” Santos, remains in jail despite the dropping of all cases against her. We visited with Beth Principe at the Camp Crame jail in May this year. She is a strong, amazing woman who has never stopped struggling for the rights and welfare of the Philippine [...] It was a brilliant sunshiny Labour Day 2008 when Malcolm and I set out for the 30km. drive to Mount Pleasant Cemetery in a suburb north of Montreal.
